Stumble With Caution

StumbleUpon is the quintessential, "I'm bored and have nothing better to do" site. There have been a number of times where I should be doing one thing, and instead I am "stumbling." If you don't know what I am talking about then you have obviously been living under a rock for a little bit, but that's alright just don't hate me when you become addicted to it.

StumbleUpon is defined as, "an Internet community that allows its users to discover and rate Web pages, photos, and videos. It is a personalized recommendation engine which uses peer and social-networking principles"

Basically it should be defined as, "an addicting way to pass time." An article on Mashable.com addresses the site's recent growth to nearly 1 billion stumbles in just one month. This has grown since its previous month's stumbles of just 800 million. StumbleUpon sends you to sites based on your preferences and as you continue to stumble and "like" certain types of sites, the likelihood of landing on a site you like becomes greater.

The author of the article stated it best when he wrote, "Moments of serendipity run rampant as you click the Stumble button to go to the next selected site." The addictive nature of this site pulls its visitors in and tempts them to spend hours upon hours stumbling.

So, I warn you, stumble with caution.

“Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something,
perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever
stumbling on something sitting down.”
- Charles F Kettering
